HESCO (Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization) in its essence is truly rural as it derives inspiration from the villages and devises solutions for their problems. It helps them to focus on their ecology inclusive economic development and their needs for self- reliance.
Enhancing Food Security and Horticulture
Millet Research and Cultivation
The project entitled “Enhancing food security of rural families through production, processing and value addition of regional staple food grains” with the objective to increase the productivity and consumption for improved nutritional security, to reduce the drudgery of women in processing and harvesting and to enhance their income and social status.
Develop the Valley (Regions) as a Fruit Belt for Ecological and Economic Sustainability in the Himalayan Region
HESCO (Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization) has been working for the last four decades to promote sustainable rural development in India, with a strong focus on eco-friendly livelihood solutions.
Gross Environment Product
Ecological disasters are pervasive globally, and the UN’s environmental reports on water, air, and health are threatening. IPCC’s latest release on the Global ecological future is quite disturbing. The reports foresee that 20 years from now human survival would be very difficult. In India, 30 big cities are anticipated to face a water crisis
Spring Recharging
In the hilly and mountainous areas water for domestic use (drinking, washing, cooking, etc) is largely derived from shallow wells (Naula) and springs (Dhara). An increasing problem is the deterioration in discharge from springs, which sometimes even causes the springs to dry up entirely.
Himalayan Environmental Studies & Conservation Organisation (HESCO) is a Dehradun based non profit that marries scientific research with indigenous knowledge to develop low cost, eco friendly technologies for mountain communities. Wikipedia
HESCO was founded in 1981 by Padma Bhushan & Padma Shri award winning environmentalist Dr Anil Prakash Joshi.
