HESCO (Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization) in its essence is truly rural as it derives inspiration from the villages and devises solutions for their problems. It helps them to focus on their ecology inclusive economic development and their needs for self- reliance.

For the last 40 years, Dr. Anil Joshi and his team has been applying knowledge of the environmental sciences and simple technologies to bring consistent development to the rural villages of the Himalayas. Their innovative and ecologically-sound solutions so far, have yielded outstanding results in their target regions, and have brought them national recognition, and recently international attention for their contributions to rural mountain development considering the pioneering work and philosophy of Dr. Anil P. Joshi and his HESCO team, armed with advanced knowledge of the environmental sciences and low-cost technologies.

VISION

HESCO has been working in a participatory manner, integrating community development strategies to foster sustainable growth. Its focus is on an ecology-inclusive economy, recognising that environmental sustainability and economic progress must go hand in hand. Knowledge and technology serve as key tools in this mission.

MISSION

HESCO has been involved in various innovations that leverage local resource availability, effectively combining traditional wisdom with modern knowledge for practical implementation. Rural India, particularly the Himalayan region, can sustain its ecology if a local resource-based economy is promoted.  development.

Enhancing Food Security and Horticulture

Millet Research and Cultivation

The project entitled “Enhancing food security of rural families through production, processing and value addition of regional staple food grains” with the objective to increase the productivity and consumption for improved nutritional security, to reduce the drudgery of women in processing and harvesting and to enhance their income and social status. Four villages, two from district Chamoli (Saloor, Paini) and two villages (Chauki, Nagrasu) from district Rudraprayag, covering 157 families are selected.

Develop the Valley (Regions) as a Fruit Belt for Ecological and Economic Sustainability in the Himalayan Region

About Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi

Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi: The Mountain Man Dr. Anil Prakash Joshi is born in a middle-class family and hails from a small town Kotdwar of Uttarakhand. He did M.Sc., Ph.D. in Botany and became a reader in P.G. College. He was involved in social service since beginning of his career as teacher. His commitments for social service were so deep that he left his lucrative job for social cause in 1992.
